Wise County Judge, Three Others Killed in Crash

Terri-Johnson4292014Terri Johnson, a justice of the peace in Wise County, was killed in a traffic accident on April 26th.

The accident occurred when Johnson was driving the wrong way down Route 81/287, south of Decator, around 6 p.m. The judge was operating a Volkswagen Passat, and collided head-on with a Chevrolet Trailblazer.

Johnson and three passengers in the other vehicle died at the scene of the accident. A four-year-old child was also transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

“For an as yet undetermined reason, the Passat was traveling the wrong way on the roadway. Our troopers are going to take a look at all the physical evidence left behind at the scene and interview the witnesses and try to make a determination as to what caused this crash,” the Texas Department of Public Safety told reporters. Authorities say they do not yet know if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Head-on collisions are incredibly dangerous, since the momentum of both cars can cause tremendous damage.

One of the most famous of all head-on car crashes of all time happened on September 30,1955. That was the day that a Porsche 550 Spyder, driven by 24-year-old James Dean, collided head-on with a Ford Tutor, killing the young actor. His death, just before the release of Rebel Without a Cause, lifted the late actor to legendary status.

Johnson was first elected as Justice of the peace in 2006. She served in Precinct 2 for Wise County.
