Total BodyR Formula

Total BodyR Formula and Total Body Mega Formula are liquid dietary supplements made up of vitamins, colloidal minerals, amino acids, essential fatty acids and antioxidants. On April 10, 2008, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a recall of "Total Body Formula" and "Total Body Mega Formula" because of likely contamination. FDA officials found hazardous levels of selenium in the supplements after receiving reports of nearly 50 people in nine different states who had experienced adverse reactions.

Lab tests were performed on both "Total Body Formula" and "Total Body Mega Formula" and an astounding 40,800 micrograms of selenium per serving were found . That amount is over 200 times the amount of selenium indicated on the labels of the products.

Severe reactions by users of the supplements typically occurred within five to ten days of daily ingestion and included:

• Significant hair loss
• Muscle cramps
• Diarrhea
• Joint pain
• Deformed fingernails
• Fatigue

The FDA concurs that all of these symptoms are indicative of selenium overdosing.

Shortly after the recall, the maker of "Total Body Formula" and "Total Body Mega Formula" posted the following warning on the home page of their website:

"***WARNING***
PUBLIC NOTICE
IF YOU ARE TAKING TOTAL BODY FORMULA, LOT # 4016801, 4016802, 4024801, 4031801, 4031802 or 4031803 PLEASE STOP TAKING IT NOW AND CONSULT YOUR PHYSICIAN. THERE IS EXCESSIVE SELENIUM IN THE PRODUCT THAT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS HEALTH PROBLEMS."
