DALLAS - The Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation presented $350,000 in college scholarships at the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) today (10:00am). This includes a community scholarship contribution of $150,000 from Education is Freedom, the newest DHCCF partner. The check was presented during a press conference today at the DISD Administration Building. The college scholarships will benefit many DISD seniors and other deserving area students pursuing higher education.

The DHCCF, founded in 1990, made a ground breaking donation to the DISD in 2003 providing more than quarter of a million dollars in scholarships. Since then, the DCHCCF has met and raised their commitment each year, increasing this year's donation by $50,000.

"For 16 years, the Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation has consistently raised the bar of excellence when it comes to its commitment to the students of this community," said Victor M. Zepeda, Chairman of the Board, Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. "The Dallas Independent School District, its principals, counselors and teachers are to be commended for educating and preparing our youth to take the road to higher education and leadership."

The press conference precluded an annual awards ceremony celebrating the accomplishments of the scholarship winners. The 26th Annual Stars on the Rise Scholarship Awards Banquet and Silent auction will be held at the Fairmont Hotel, Regency Ballroom on Wed., June 21 at 7:00 p.m. with keynote speaker, The Honorable Rick Noriega, Texas House of Representatives.

The check presentation included Dr. Michael Hinojosa, General Superintendent, DISD; Victor Zepeda, GDHCC Chairman; Maricela Aguilar, President, Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation; and Gabriel Almanza and Angel Reyes, Co-Chairs, "Stars on the Rise Education Banquet.
