ReliOn Insulin Syringes Recall |

On November 5, 2008, the FDA released a report on the recall of mislabeled ReliOn Insulin Syringes for diabetes. ReliOn syringes are manufactured by Tyco Healthcare Group, LP (Covidein). One lot of the syringes with permanently affixed hypodermic needles is being recalled due to potential mislabeling. According to the FDA, use of these syringes could result in an overdose of as much as 2.5 times the intended dose, and lead to hypoglycemia, other health complications and even death. Jury verdict in a wrongful death case involving a defective Duragesic® fentanyl pain patch, manufactured by Alza Corporation and Janssen Pharmaceutica Products, L.P. (Johnson & Johnson subsidiaries), which resulted in the death of a 28-year-old young man. (Litigation expenses were $300,000 and attorneys' fees were $1,200,000.)
