The Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will hold its 26th annual Stars on the Rise Scholarship Awards Banquet and Silent Auction at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at the Fairmont Hotel.
The program will celebrate the DHCC Foundation's presentation of $350,000 in college scholarships to the Dallas Independent School District last week. The sum included $150,000 from Education Is Freedom, the newest chamber partner. State Rep. Rick Noriega will deliver the keynote address.
The foundation, created in 1990, first gave a donation to the DISD in 2003 that provided more than a quarter of a million dollars in scholarships. Since then, the foundation has raised its commitment each year, increasing its donation by $50,000 this year. DISD general superintendent Dr. Michael Hinojosa accepted the gift at last week's event.
Victor Zepeda is the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce chairman and Maricela Aguilar is president. Gabriel Almanza and Angel Reyes are co-chairs of Wednesday's education banquet.
Tickets are $55 each.
