A Canadian man was crushed to death in the drive-thru of a Vancouver McDonald’s. Tony Eyles, 42, a husband and father of two, was crushed by his own vehicle in the accident in the early morning of September 8. Police pronounced him dead at the scene.
A fundraising page has been created for his wife and children. The fundraising page refers to him as “an amazing husband, father and co-worker.” Eyles was an elevator mechanic working on high-rises in Vancouver. He died just weeks before his ninth wedding anniversary.
Freak accidents involving single cars may not be the fault of the victim. Negligence on the part of other entities may cause or contribute to such crashes. If you have been hurt in a motor vehicle crash, the Dallas car accident lawyers at Angel Reyes – Reyes Browne Reilley can help you obtain the compensation you deserve for your injuries.
Surveillance Video Reveals Horrific Scene
Surveillance video caught the awful event. Eyles was attempting to pick up his food and pay with his bank card. After dropping the card, he opened the door to retrieve it, but the car rolled forward. He was crushed between the door and part of the restaurant’s structural frame.
Not the First Time
This is not the first time a customer at a fast-food establishment has been crushed to death by their own car in a drive-thru. In 2018, a man died in a St. Louis Jack-in-the-Box drive-thru after being pinned in his car. In that incident, the young man was trying to get his food but was too far away from the window. He placed the car in reverse but hit the gas, causing the vehicle to go backwards and hit a tree. He was then pinned between the car and the tree. He died shortly afterward at a hospital.
Earlier this year, a 23-year-old Ohio State University graduate student died in a similar accident when she was trying to pay and exit a parking garage.
