Auto Accidents

Tragedy has struck the Dallas-Fort Worth community of Euless, Texas as the police department lays to rest one of their own over the weekend. Euless police Detective Alejandro Cervantes passed away Saturday afternoon when a suspected intoxicated driver ran a red light in his black Jeep Wrangler in Lake Worth. Det. Alejandro “Alex” Cervantes was off duty in his personal vehicle with his wife and two children as well. The crash happened at the intersection of Boat Club Road and Rocky Point Trial, killing Det. Cervantes at the scene, and leaving his wife and children in critical condition. After the wreck, the motorist attempted to run away from the scene, and bystanders ran after and stopped him. Euless police Chief Mike Brown said Sunday that the department is forever in debt to those bystanders.

Cervantes served over fifteen years in law enforcement between El Paso Police Department and Euless. The Euless Police Officers Benevolent Organization has set up a special account for donations.

Over-Served

Thankfully, Det. Cervantes’s wife and children are now all in stable condition, according to police Chief Brown. However, Lake Worth Police Department’s investigation now includes the restaurant Dylan Molina, 26, was at moments before the crash. According to Lake Worth police Chief J.T. Manoushagian, investigators are working with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, and have served Fuzzy’s Taco Shop at 6010 Azle Avenue with a search warrant. The location is less than one-half mile from the crash site, and detectives are reviewing surveillance video, receipts, and transaction logs.

Dylan Molina’s blood-alcohol level was nearly double the legal limit of 0.08. The department has not ruled out the potential criminal liability of any waitstaff who served Molina on Saturday.

Currently at the Tarrant County Jail, Molina’s bond was set at $300,000 on Monday. He faces charges for intoxication manslaughter, an accident involving death and three counts of aggravated assault.
