Safety Recall Checkup
There’s a lot to consider when trying to stay safe on the roads. Traffic patterns, hazardous weather, and roadway conditions are a few of the more commonly discussed topics. But what if your own vehicle posed the biggest threat? By using your VIN, you can check if your car or motorcycle is qualified for a safety recall.
What is my VIN?
Your vehicle identification number is a unique code assigned to your automobile. Each VIN represents only one vehicle and is never duplicated.
You can find your VIN on the lower left corner of your windshield. It can also be found on the interior of your driver’s side door paneling.
Your VIN will be a 17-character combination of letters and numbers.
Your VIN and Your Safety
It is crucial that you stay up-to-date on safety recalls issued by your vehicle manufacturer. If your car qualifies for an active safety recall, act immediately! Contact your local dealership to get the issue repaired free of charge. While you wait for your service appointment, follow the interim safety instructions found in your manual, or research your manufacturer’s official recall guidance online.
You can use your VIN to find out if your vehicle is currently affected by a safety recall, or if a recall has been issued for your vehicle in the past 15 years.
Keep in mind that only motorcycle manufacturers and major light automakers’ safety recalls will be connected with a VIN. Below is a list of qualified light auto manufacturers:
