Car Insurance Company

Top Car Insurance Companies

Who can I trust? Which car insurance company has the best rates? Who gives the largest payouts? Who offers the best car insurance coverage?

It can be overwhelming to consider all of these factors when searching for the best car insurance in Texas. That is why the team at Angel Reyes & Associates has leveraged their 30+ years of experience dealing with insurance claims to compile a list of the top car insurance companies ranked—showing you the good, the bad, and the overpriced.

Here is our car insurance company review for 2025:

1. Geico

Let’s start with an easy one – Geico. The home of the Gecko consistently ranks as one of the most affordable car insurance providers, especially for drivers with less-than-perfect credit.

Founded in Washington, D.C. in 1936, Geico is a long-standing institution in the insurance world.

We find them to be fair, and they always answer our calls when we negotiate on behalf of our clients. While they do tend to disagree with us on how much a claim should be worth, we recognize it is their job to try to minimize your payout. Luckily, you have a skilled personal injury attorney to fight for the maximum compensation for you.

Types of Insurance Offered:

  • Auto Insurance
  • Homeowners Insurance
  • Renters Insurance
  • Condo Insurance
  • Motorcycle Insurance
  • Boat Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Umbrella Insurance

Car Insurance Premiums/Coverage:

  • Average annual full coverage premium: $1,731
  • Average annual minimum coverage premium: $517
  • Offers standard coverage options including liability, collision, comprehensive, personal injury protection (PIP), and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.
  • Provides additional coverages such as mechanical breakdown insurance and emergency road service.

Overall, we think Geico is a decent insurance company and worthy of getting a quote for your auto insurance policy.

2. State Farm

In the office, we lovingly refer to this company as Snake Farm. We don’t want to waste your time – we do NOT recommend you work with State Farm.

While they may be among the largest private passenger auto insurance companies in the U.S., in operation since 1922, State Farm does not keep their policyholder’s interests in mind. We find that they defend, deny, and delay – three things that make the claim nearly impossible to resolve.

Types of Insurance Offered:

  • Auto Insurance
  • Homeowners Insurance
  • Renters Insurance
  • Condo Insurance
  • Motorcycle Insurance
  • Boat Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Health Insurance
  • Disability Insurance
  • Umbrella Insurance

Car Insurance Premiums/Coverage:

  • Average annual full coverage premium: $1,697
  • Average annual minimum coverage premium: $482
  • Offers standard coverage options including liability, collision, comprehensive, PIP, and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.
  • Provides additional coverages such as rental car reimbursement and roadside assistance.

If you ever get into an accident with a driver insured by State Farm, partner with a skilled car accident lawyer from Angel Reyes & Associates to fight on your behalf.

3. AAA

Known for its roadside assistance services, AAA has also been providing competitive car insurance policies since 1902. However, we find their auto insurance to just be “okay.”

Types of Insurance Offered:

  • Auto Insurance
  • Homeowners Insurance
  • Renters Insurance
  • Condo Insurance
  • Motorcycle Insurance
  • Boat Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Umbrella Insurance

Car Insurance Premiums/Coverage:

  • Average annual premium: $1,715
  • Offers standard coverage options including liability, collision, comprehensive, PIP, and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.
  • Provides additional coverages such as rental car reimbursement and roadside assistance

We recommend sticking with their roadside assistance services, but working with a different company to get the best car insurance coverage.

4. Allstate

Allstate has been offering a variety of coverage options since 1931, including accident forgiveness and new car replacement. Though they were originally established as a subsidiary of Sears, Roebuck & CO, they have been operating independently since 1993 and have become one of the largest publicly held personal line insurers in the United States.

That said, we tend to have a “hit or miss” experience dealing with them as Texas car accident lawyers. Sometimes, they’ll pay our clients decently. Other times, they aren’t as easy to work with, and they will require a lawsuit for every single claim.

Types of Insurance Offered:

  • Auto Insurance
  • Homeowners Insurance
  • Renters Insurance
  • Condo Insurance
  • Motorcycle Insurance
  • Boat Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Umbrella Insurance

Car Insurance Premiums/Coverage:

  • Average annual premium: $1,850
  • Offers standard coverage options including liability, collision, comprehensive, PIP, and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.
  • Provides additional coverages such as rental car reimbursement and accident forgiveness.

We think you deserve better. Plus, they tend to have higher premiums than many of their competitors.

5. Progressive

Progressive, founded in 1937, is known for its highly competitive rates, especially for high-risk drivers. Perhaps their spokesperson, Flo, is even more well known. Their commercials are charming, and we do find that the people who work for progressive are kind and easy to work with.

Types of Insurance Offered:

  • Auto Insurance
  • Homeowners Insurance
  • Renters Insurance
  • Condo Insurance
  • Motorcycle Insurance
  • Boat Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Umbrella Insurance

Car Insurance Premiums/Coverage:

  • Average annual premium: $1,700
  • Offers standard coverage options including liability, collision, comprehensive, PIP, and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.
  • Provides additional coverages such as pet injury protection and custom parts and equipment coverage

With their flexible coverage options and competitive pricing, Angel Reyes & Associates recommends Progressive as one of the best car insurance companies in Texas.

6. USAA

USAA is a great car insurance company that has provided exceptional service and competitive rates exclusively to military members, veterans, and their families since 1922.

If you’re able to get an auto insurance policy through USAA, we highly recommend you do. They are great people to work with, they treat their customers well, and they offer fair payouts.

Types of Insurance Offered:

  • Auto Insurance
  • Homeowners Insurance
  • Renters Insurance
  • Condo Insurance
  • Motorcycle Insurance
  • Boat Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Umbrella Insurance

Car Insurance Premiums/Coverage:

  • Average annual full coverage premium: $2,802
  • Average annual minimum coverage premium: $807
  • Offers standard coverage options including liability, collision, comprehensive, PIP, and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.

Over the last 32 years, we have had nothing but great experiences working with USAA, and find that they really do treat veterans and their families as well as their T.V. commercials claim they do.

7. Farmers Insurance

We’ll keep this one short and sweet. Farmers Insurance is a great company to work with.

Originally started in 1928 to offer insurance coverage to farmers, the company has since expanded and become one of the most popular coverage options amongst its competitors.

In fact, many Texans have gone with Farmers for their auto insurance policy. They offer a decent range of coverage options and several discount opportunities for their customers.

Types of Insurance Offered:

  • Auto Insurance
  • Homeowners Insurance
  • Renters Insurance
  • Condo Insurance
  • Motorcycle Insurance
  • Boat Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Business Insurance
  • Umbrella Insurance

Car Insurance Premiums/Coverage:

  • Average annual full coverage premium: $3,106
  • Offers standard coverage options including liability, collision, comprehensive, personal injury protection (PIP), and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.
  • Provides additional coverages such as rental car reimbursement, roadside assistance, and accident forgiveness.

Overall, we’ve had excellent experiences dealing with them on behalf of our clients.

8. Amica

Amica may not be the biggest car insurance company on this list, but they have been renowned for their customer service and wide range of car insurance coverage options since 1907, including accident forgiveness and new car replacement.

Types of Insurance Offered:

  • Auto Insurance
  • Homeowners Insurance
  • Renters Insurance
  • Condo Insurance
  • Motorcycle Insurance
  • Boat Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Umbrella Insurance

Car Insurance Premiums/Coverage:

  • Average annual full coverage premium: $2,371
  • Average annual minimum coverage premium: $878
  • Offers standard coverage options including liability, collision, comprehensive, PIP, and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.
  • Provides additional coverages such as rental car reimbursement, roadside assistance, and gap insurance.
  • Offers a dividend policy option, where policyholders may receive a portion of their premium back annually

We have nothing but good things to say about dealing with Amica.

9. Travelers

As the longest standing company on our list (founded in 1853), Travelers is a great car insurance company that offers a variety of coverage options, including usage-based insurance through its IntelliDrive program. They aren’t the cheapest, but they do provide several discount opportunities, such as multi-policy and safe driver discounts.

Types of Insurance Offered:

  • Auto Insurance
  • Homeowners Insurance
  • Renters Insurance
  • Condo Insurance
  • Motorcycle Insurance
  • Boat Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Umbrella Insurance

Car Insurance Premiums/Coverage:

  • Average annual full coverage premium: $1,630
  • Offers standard coverage options including liability, collision, comprehensive, PIP, and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.
  • Provides additional coverages such as rental car reimbursement, roadside assistance, and new car replacement

We find that because their premiums are a bit higher, they tend to treat every claim very fairly, and we have had good success with them over the years.

10. The “Ugly” – Fred Loya Insurance, Old American, and Falcon Insurance

Full transparency here – we do NOT recommend any of these bottom-tier insurance companies.

Fred Loya Insurance

Fred Loya Insurance is a regional insurance provider serving the Texas area, offering a range of personal and commercial insurance products since 1974. While they offer low rates, we find their coverage to be spotty at best, and they tend to give lowball offers on most claims.

Types of Insurance Offered:

  • Auto Insurance
  • Homeowners Insurance
  • Renters Insurance
  • Condo Insurance
  • Motorcycle Insurance
  • Boat Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Business Insurance

  • Average annual full coverage premium: $979 for no accidents/$1215 for one accident
  • Offers standard coverage options including liability, collision, comprehensive, PIP, and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.
  • Provides additional coverages such as rental car reimbursement and roadside assistance.

Old American County Mutual Insurance

Old American County Mutual Insurance is a Texas-based insurance company that primarily known for providing auto insurance to high-risk drivers.

  • Offers standard auto coverages including liability, collision, comprehensive, personal injury protection (PIP), and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage
  • Optional coverages may include roadside assistance, rental reimbursement, and towing

Falcon Insurance

Founded in 1989, Falcon Insurance Company is a Texas-based insurer specializing in non-standard auto insurance.

Types of Insurance Offered:

  • Auto Insurance
  • Motorcycle Insurance
  • Commercial Auto Insurance

  • Average annual full coverage premium: $2,000
  • Offers standard coverage options including liability, collision, comprehensive, PIP, and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.
  • Provides additional coverages such as rental car reimbursement and roadside assistance.

If you’re insured by, or get into an accident with a driver insured by, one of these companies, then you should unfortunately expect a dog fight. We have seen these companies drag out a simple property damage claim for 6 months.

When dealing with one of the “ugly” car insurance policies, we highly recommend you partner with a car or truck accident lawyer from Angel Reyes & Associates to fight on your behalf.
