In mid-September 2021, a silver sedan crashed into the Trendsetters Barbershop on North La Brea Avenue in West Hollywood, CA. The car narrowly missed ramming into the storefront of celebrity tattoo artist and model Kat Von D. It was stopped short by a column in the façade of the barbershop. The stylists were unflappable, however, as they continued trimming hair in the rear of the shop while the front of the building was covered in shattered glass and various debris.
Not Kat’s First Brush with Danger
Kat Von D’s tattoo parlor has previously been in the news for other unfortunate circumstances. In 2007, a truck narrowly avoided the tattoo parlor and instead crashed into the storefront next door. At the time, the store was an Edible Arrangements, rather than a barbershop. That crash happened shortly before Kat sought to attract 400 people to her shop within 24 hours to break a Guinness World Record for the most people tattooed within that time period.
In 2014, the tattoo parlor was not quite so lucky. An early morning fire broke out, requiring nearly 50 firefighters to put out. The Trendsetters Barbershop was located next door at that time, and it was also damaged in the fire.
Cause of The Accident Unknown
It isn’t yet known exactly what caused the sedan to nearly crash into the former “L.A. Ink” star’s High Voltage Tattoo shop. However, the Los Angeles area is infamous for its street racing. Local residents frequently see crashes caused by excessive speeds and reckless driving in these illegal street races.
In addition to illegal street racing, other common causes of car accidents include distracted driving, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and drowsy driving. Road rage is another possible culprit, as it can prompt drivers to follow too closely, speed, and otherwise disobey the rules of the road.
Potential Liability Issues Involved With Car Accidents
Most car accidents involve issues of negligence. A driver is considered negligent for engaging in behavior that is detrimental to the safety of others and for failing to exercise reasonable care. For example, if a driver follows another vehicle too closely or makes an unsafe left-hand turn at a traffic light, that driver could be considered negligent.
Drivers may also be held liable for recklessness or wanton conduct. For instance, a driver who engages in illegal street racing is behaving with reckless disregard for the safety of others. Occasionally, car accidents are found to have occurred due to intentional misconduct. A driver may intentionally ram another car in a road rage incident, for instance.
If you were hurt in an auto accident, a personal injury lawyer can launch a thorough investigation to determine which party may be held liable for the crash and its resulting damages.
