After moving to Dallas in 2002, LTC Smith was appointed acting chairman for the City of Dallas Civil Service Board by Mayor Laura Miller. LTC Smith has also served on the Board of Directors for the Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce.

    In his free time, LTC Smith enjoys reading, writing music, and singing. He is also very involved with his Church, and being involved in LTC Smith has performed professionally and has won honors for his singing and songwriting. Most of all, however, LTC Smith enjoys spending time with his family. His family consists of his wife, Susan, his sons Joshua and Matthew, and his daughter Brittany.
